I have been delighted with all the comments and definitions about what it means to be GUTSY.
It really is a great word that has a lot of “juice” to it.
Thinking about the essence of GUTSY women as I glanced through a fashion magazine I was struck with how much we have put on the icing being the cake. It took me back to my daughters who went to a private school where they wore uniforms. Plaid skirts and either red or blue blouses or sweaters were the style of the day.
It sure made my life easy. That was decades ago and times have changed. The school no longer requires uniforms and several moms told me they hate morning time when their daughters keep changing their minds about what the look of the day should be.
My question now is: what are we teaching the next generation of girls about GUTSY living. It does not boil down to a pair of Manolo Blanhick shoes or a tight dress that leaves nothing to the imagination.
My daughters were lucky. There were able to go on some Outward Bound programs that helped them face themselves without all the extra paraphernalia of modern city living. They each spent a night alone in the desert; just a tent, some minimal food, water, the stars and the silence.
Now all grown up they do like to look attractive, yet they are not defined by their clothes. Although after so many years with uniforms neither wants to wear red or blue sweaters.
When we talked recently about how they define GUTSY they both went back to their solo vision quest; that time when they faced their fears and their dreams under the huge desert sky.
Come join us next week-end, May 2oth-22nd to begin the exploration of GUTSY at a retreat to put into perspective the power and purpose of being a GUTSY woman.
I think you have it right. too much emphasis is put on what (and who) you wear these days. It can speak for you instead of having you have to speak for yourself which is sad.
Guts is indeed overcoming fear and going for it despite the conveniences we may have that sometimes hinder us to explore the unknown and unfamiliar.
I like the GUTSY life,God! similar with me so deep!
Came across your site and thought this video of an Australian business woman might be of interest to you. Definitely A gutsy woman.

This sounded like it was a great retreat. Do you have another planned or videos/pictures from the event? Sounds great with what you’re doing and would love to follow along in your journey.
Dear Diane,
Thank you for your comment on GUTSY. We do have another GUTSY planned for August 5-7, 2011. You may visit http://www.ceoptions.com for more information or email maryjane@ceoptions.com.
I also have some videos on GUTSY. Visit my YouTube Channel – SylviaLafair
I love your idea and showing the potential that women DO have and now what people think we have. Was this your first retreat?
I would also prefer to wear a uniform when going to work so that I will not have a problem choosing which clothes to wear everyday. I think this is already natural for women. But being gutsy will always make you look and feel good no matter what you wear.
