The State of the Union speech last night has stirred up quite the chatter.
I must admit, I am a bit jaded about listening to rhetoric and empty promises. However, last night was just a tad different.
What made the difference?
It was Gabrielle Gifford looking beautiful and strong. What an inspiration to all of us.
I kept thinking about how I would have responded to all that therapy and all the pain of leaving a life behind not knowing what is ahead. She is a perfect example of leadership and grace.
Here is a woman who shows us what true grit is.
There was a moment, it was a small and sweet moment, when President Obama came close, to hug her. They talked about whatever, that was between them. And then, as he leaned down, they were in a special kind of almost celebratory dance.
Sometimes we forget that behind the titles, behind the power, there are real live human beings.
The State of the Union is more than just policy; it’s about how we talk with and treat each other, how we show respect and stop petty fighting.
That’s what Congresswoman Gifford showed and gave to all of us.
