If the shoe fits, change it!

Ellen’s Story
When I talked with Ellen last fall, she hated her job, her boss, her co-workers, her drive time, her office.

Got the picture?

She played the blame game better than anyone I had ever met. Life and problems were always “out there”.

Then she called me to say she had been laid off before the holidays and was thrilled to be out of that “awful job”. She had a fun time preparing for Christmas and was frustrated when a new job came open, and since work was available, she had to take it.

I bumped into her at the gas station yesterday and, yup, it was the same old Ellen. “How’s the new job” I asked, more out of politeness that anything else.

And her reply; anyone want to guess?

Well, she hated her job, her boss, her co-workers, her drive time, her office.

Have you ever met anyone who keeps singing the same song in different places?

Janet’s Story

And then, I just heard about Janet. She hated her son-in-law and was glad when her daughter divorced. Now the daughter is getting ready to remarry and Janet just can’t stand the new guy.  Her complaints sound a tad different; this man at least has a good income.

Yet, the complaining is in the same shrill voice.

Why repeat the same story?

If we keep thinking our leadership style is just fine and we keep repeating the same litany over and over, shame on us.

Here is what Carl Jung, world renowned  psychiatrist said,

It is often tragic to see how blatantly a man (or woman) bungles his own life and the lives of others, yet remains totally incapable of seeing how much the whole tragedy originates in him(or her) self, and continually feeds it and keeps it going.
