Hi Clarence,
Great that you responded to one of my blogs from 2010. In it I talked about our 44thTotal Leadership Connections Program. Amazingly, we are starting the 50th March 7-9, 2012.
I want to congratulate you for moving from the pattern of AVOIDER to be an INITIATOR! Good Work,
Instead of ignoring or "laughing it off" which would eventually keep you stresses out, you took action.
What could you have done differently? Instead of rambling when he asked if you were serious, a simple YES would have been enough. In any case, keep up thransforming patterns; it's what the world needs now.
Best,
Sylvia

Hey Sylvialafair,
Interesting Thoughts I work at a nationwide pizza chain in my local college town. Ever since I started working there(4 months ago) I have endured much teasing and insults. I'm an easy target because I just laugh about it. I also don't stand up for myself and can't come up with witty comebacks.

Yesterday, this one supervisor was really digging into me with insults such as "I hope you die" and "you are worthless." He really got under my skin. I waited till there were no customers in the store and pushed him. I then proceeded to get in his face stating that "he should show me the same amount of respect that I show for him" and that I was sick of his BULL.

He called me and asked if I was serious which I gave a rambling answer of YES. He then apologized.

Did I handle this situation correctly? What could I have done better?
Good Job!

Hi John,
Here is my thought. This Super Bowl half time program was like any other business, albeit much more flashy. In plenty of other workplaces someone uses drama or explosive actions to get attention. The next step is what does the boss do with the impact after the fact. I simply think this is a great place where Madonna could help this young woman see a better way rather than just 'fire" her or ignore her.
i am also frustrated that today's mantra is "any press is better than no press" and that goes for so many business people, not just media. We have so few boundaries any more about what is appropriate.
Let me know if this makes more sense to you.

I really fail to understand the logic behind the comparison between Workplace Conflict, Madonna, and the “Digitus Impudictus”.. Has any body understood it?

It's a pity that our media has produced a sort of "watch at your own risk" environment, though we have our constitution and ammendments, everything should have a limit and good taste should prevail.

Hi Beth,
Thanks for the comment.I think you are super courageous for sitting with your daughter to watch this powerful film. I do believe there comes a time when our children need to learn about the world they will inherit from us and find new and more hopeful ways to live together. So sad that choosing to eat a healthy life style can be seen as wrong. Keep being strong and your daughter will grow to become a spokesperson for right whether it is about eating preferences or judging race or religion. Kudos to you, Sylvia

I watched this with my daughter when she was 10 years old. I did watch it first and then decided it was something we should watch together and we discussed it, in detail for weeks because it was traumatizing to watch for the both of us. She lives in am area where people have thrown meat at her in the cafeteria because she is a vegetarian and she hear racial slurs on a daily basis. I wanted her to walk about with a different perceptive on race and relationships with our fellow human beings that rival her peer influences.
